Wörnitz, the first truck security parking lot in southern Germany opened for business on 31 st January 2009. As a special gesture, the first 20 drivers received free entry into the sauna, one of the specialist facilities at the truckstop.

The site is well located within easy reach of a number of key economic regions, for example Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Paris, Lyon, Milan, Verona, Vienna, Graz and many of more.

 

Co-European Finance

The truckstop has a budget of €350,000, with €170,000 being funded by The European Commission. This money is being spent on improving and refurbishing the site and increasing security standards.

Security standards are high at the truck park with a special entry system in place. The drivers approach the entry to the site and receive a ticket from an automated machine. Simultaneously their vehicle identification numbers are recorded and printed onto the ticket. The entry time and vehicle details are stored in the system for 45 days. Once the ticket has been issued, the barrier and gate open to allow the vehicle in, whilst cameras continue to film from above and both sides. Once the truck has passed through the gates and barrier, they immediately close. Upon leaving the truckstop after their rest, the vehicle is again filmed and the time recorded and archived.

After parking the vehicle, the ticket acts as a pass for the driver to access the truckstop facilities. The driver can gain access to the showers, shop, restaurant and sauna. The ticket also allowed access back into the parking lot.

Site Details

The truckstop opened on 31.1.09 with an opening event taking place in February 09.

The parking fee at Wörnitz is 3.50 € /hour and 25 € /day.

Security

In addition to the details mentioned above, the parking lot is surrounded by a 2.5m high double rod fence. Day and night cameras cover the whole parking zone. At night, strong lighting is provided.
